FFA history facts are normally one of the first things I teach and they seem to be the HARDEST to grasp for some kids. I know that when I first stared teaching, I could use ALL the help I could get to help students grasp this concept. Many of them ask – What does FFA do for students and what is FFA all about?
By helping them understand why FFA is important and showing them how COOL it truly is you can drag in even the most reluctant students to learn more about the FFA history facts. Because let’s face it- you are the reason they join or don’t join FFA. And the first couple of lessons during the time frame your dues need to be turned in can be critical in deciding if your students want to hang out with you in all their free time for the next year.
What is FFA all about?
As Ag Teachers, we know the significant impact FFA can have on students. It is our job to convince them to join FFA in the time frame that we have set before dues must be paid. But how do we do that? One of the ways I try to do that in my chapter is to answer the question “Why FFA?” I hope to make them see that learning the FFA history facts will help them answer that question.
By helping them work through the FFA history facts in a fun and engaging way, my goal is to make them WANT to be a part of FFA. So they want to learn MORE and even maybe be on the knowledge team! Through the unit I have set up and the different activities in it, I hope to create options that help students explore the facts without being bored out of their minds or hearing me lecture the entire time.
What does FFA do for students?
Some students are just warm bodies in your class to get their credit. We all have them every year, and we will continue to have them every year. It is a common fact. We are an elective class. BUT they still have to do the work and I get so tired of hearing the whining that comes with all FFA classwork when they say, “BUT I am NOT in FFA!” Thank you dear student, because I forgot that (insert sarcastic comment under my breath and an eye roll).
So when I teach about FFA history facts I try to create a lesson and environment that will allow the students to understand and answer the question: “What is FFA all about?” My FFA history facts lesson tells them just that! Learning the history and the dates and the significant little pieces will show them the true impact the three circle model and FFA can have in their lives.
You already have them in your classroom – now how are you going to make them want to be on your chapter roster? Through the FFA History Facts Unit and my creative engaging activities and lesson plans! Check them out!
